Panerai releases a 100-piece boutique-only watch with spectacular openwork architecture to surprise fans. The Radiomir Tourbillon Bronzo PAM01284 reflects the brand’s true haute horology within the sporty collection. Lately, Panerai has been focusing on the Radiomir collection and so, it’s no surprise that the latest release roofs under the same collection this year.

A Little History..

Panerai created a significant buzz among watch buyers and collectors in 2011 with the release of its first Bronze timepiece, the Luminor Submersible Bronzo PAM 382. No luxury watch brand had produced a bronze watch till then whose material patinates with time, turning into a greenish colour. So, it received an overwhelmingly positive response.

Bronze possesses a remarkable capacity to withstand the corrosive effects of saltwater, making it a favoured material in marine navigation and shipbuilding equipment. Moreover, Panerai started out as a supplier of timepieces to the Italian Royal Navy which was not made available for public consumption until the 1990s. As a result, since, that first launch, the watch was seen as something original, unique and above all, useful.

What we know

The newly launched PAM01284 celebrates the opening of the new Panerai boutique at Madison Avenue stretching over a massive 2250 sq. ft. It is believed to be the brand’s largest store so far. The new flagship store is spread over two levels and has an LED screen at the front displaying images that reestablish Panerai’s connection to the naval realm.

Open the door and you can see a larger-than-life green wall clock that appears much bigger than the ones present in other Panerai boutiques worldwide. There’s also a dedicated zone for women. You can find watches as small as 35mm from the Luminor Due collection.

Enhancing the ambience is a captivating timeline spanning nearly 30 feet along an authentic bare brick wall, showcasing significant achievements in Panerai’s illustrious history.

How does the watch look?

It is a big timepiece housed at 45mm. But we also feel that’s typical for any Panerai creation. The bronze case offers a lot of vintage appeal which gracefully changes its colour with time, acquiring a greenish hue. Even when the watch develops a patina, the green shade matches the military green coating on the dial plate and bridges. Even the dial indexes match the theme. The index hour markers have a generous coating of Super-LumiNova in beige that illuminates a green shade in the dark. The watch comes on a vintage brown calf leather strap.

The openwork spectacle

The most stunning element is the openwork titanium bridge adding a different dimension to the watch outlook altogether. It creates a 3D dial layout where the hour markers are mounted on the outer chapter ring. This gives the idea that they are floating above the dial. The watch houses a GMT movement as well.

Powering this timepiece is the hand-wound Calibre P.2015/T. This particular movement allows you to enjoy an unobstructed view of the mesmerizing inner workings inside through the open case back. This is because there is no rotor to block the view. The tourbillion takes a 30-second rotation and not the conventional one-minute round. Adding to its distinctive design is the carriage of this timepiece which rotates perpendicular to the balance wheel. The GMT function is indicated by the arrowed central hand and the 24-hour indicator is positioned at 3 o’clock with a day/night indicator. Lastly, the two barrels offer a four-day power reserve.

FINAL WORDS

Panerai’s latest limited-edition watch is a true horological masterpiece, captivating enthusiasts with its openwork design and bronze case. Like the previous Bronzo editions, this seventh Bronzo Edition timepiece pays tribute to the brand’s marine history. With its limited availability and unique character, this watch represents an opportunity for discerning collectors to own a truly remarkable timepiece.
