New enemies for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok gameplay

Game Informer announced the sequel as its cover story for Issue #349, promising to shed more light on the Kratos’ and Atreus’ next big adventure.

Of course, most fans remain eager to see more of the action-packed gameplay. And a new clip offers just that and then some.

Game Informer has shared an exclusive gameplay clip from the God of War sequel, providing a closer look at new combat mechanics and a previously unseen enemy.

Kratos’s new combat techniques, including the ability to infuse both the Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos with enhanced elemental properties depending on the weapon–ice for the Axe and fire for the Blades. Doing so activates new Weapon Signature Moves–Frost Awaken for the Axe and Whiplash for the Blades–which will inflict massive damage on enemies.

This snippet of gameplay demonstrates some of Kratos’ new moves and enemies, like the reptilian Grims, in action. Kratos can now use the Triangle button to endow his Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe with fire and ice, respectively. He seems more agile in the video, too, as he is able to grapple around with his Blades and attack more fluidly from high ledges.

Kratos will even have access to new shields that have different properties. For example, one shield, as explained in the written feature about the combat, is more about parrying while the other is geared towards blocking. This second shield can’t parry, but it can unleash a shockwave once it gets struck enough times. These are only two examples of the multiple shields in the game.
