Tournament favorites Brazil have been knocked out of the World Cup after losing to Croatia who won on penalties 4-2 in their quarter-final clash. The match had finished goalless after normal time.
In the shoot-out, Livakovic saved Rodrygo’s spot-kick. While Marquinhos’s penalty hit the post to send the Brazilians crashing out of the tournament with Croatia winning 4-2.
The game was largely reduced to scrappy half chances and resolute defending as Livaković saved twice from Neymar to keep the scores level in the second half.
With neither side able to find the breakthrough, the match went into extra time which automatically favored Croatia.

The 30-year-old Neymar didn’t take a penalty in the shootout. He walked off the field in tears and left it open whether he will continue playing for the national team.
When it came to scoring from the spot, Croatia defeated Brazil 4-2 to qualify for the semi-finals. As Brazil’s dream of lifting the World Cup for the 6th time was shattered, Neymar Jr. became hard to console.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward couldn’t stop his tears as he bid goodbye to the Brazil fans. Who had come out in numbers to support them in the Qatar World Cup. A few of Neymar’s teammates also tried to console him but they couldn’t succeed.
Brazil’s veteran center-back Thiago Silva who was playing the final FIFA World Cup of his career, admitted that. – He would have to pull the curtains on his career without lifting the trophy.
